there's not much you can do with a thin knit tube !

One of the hardest jobs was using the, silly, skeins of yarn if you could find the middle after a while of pulling it, it barfed a big tangle out and if you started from the outside it jumped around the room as it unwound ! So I invested in a centre pull yarn winder 

 the yarn now stays where you put it and pulls out from the middle no problems
