Teddy Tours to Wandjina Stone

Earby - Foulridge where I called in the Pennine Cauldron Cafe and scored another free Oat Square (see http://teddytourteas.blogspot.com/2011/02/plan-b-four-teddys-of-gragareth.html ) from Simon, then over the hill to drop down into Glusburn and Crosshills where I come from
it was then on to Silsden and up the steep hill to park at the T junction on the Silsden to East Morton road
I set off along the footpath for the TV relay station but turned off to head into the forestry plantation passing several of these again, some were making caterpillars !
Into the plantation to be met with lots of these on the trees
I thought it might say trespassers will be shot, but the Bear said it says free beer at the top of the wood
neither happened and came out onto the moor half way along the wood to find the first Cup and Ring boulder almost weathered away
but the next nearer the wood was in better condition
Marble time
Followed the edge of the wood to mark 004 passing a T for Teddy carved into a boulder
Had to climb the wall to head for the Trig point
Here over looking Silsden and snacking the Oat Square, it must have been the hottest day so far this year with not a cloud in the sky I was glad of my water bottle. Set off along Rivock Edge
where it meets the wood the Wondjina Stone another badly worn with time, here's an idea get English heritage to enploy a good stone mason to re-cut them ? here overlooking Keighley
and a close up
a near by boulder on the edge had some cups
this looking over the Aire valley bypass and railway, to Cononley moor just see the Lead mine chimney the industrial eyesore at Kildwick with Crosshills to the left and the road heading for Lothersdale and then up and over to Earby. Mike Knipe will recognise the aerial on the sky line for years it was called Big Ears
It was then into the wood
to find another boulder covered in pine needles but I had a brush in the haversack
most of the cups have a ring around
It was then back down to the van where I was glad of the water stash before I drove to the Whetstone quarry marked top right on the map photo #2
I pulled in and made dinner in the back of the van out of the wind - Lavazza drip coffee and Crumpets with Wooky hole cave matured chedder cheese no butter though as it had melted !
I then set off for Whetstones gate
with a view of Cowpers cross (twelfth century)  to the left
followed the track down with Ilkley coming into view
and then cut across the moor
to come to the Badger Stone with Menwith Hill Echelon in the background again
someone had used a black wax crayon to high light the carvings
at least it's better than the white chalk
the whole face is covered in carvings
The Bear opened the the bar a South African Pinotage Shiraz
had a wander along from here then it was an uphill slog back to the van and it was still cracking flags phew!
just thought I'd share cheers all Danny

Update on sign in woods, I just had this via e-mail :-

I  do thnk its   either  someone trying  very crudely to nvent russian via  some other language or it is polish kabel the first wird  sounds   like   what I know as male dog. But I jcan't find it, to say  not knowing the spelling I cant find it. what I do find is   the russified word cabel,(electric cabel) from the German  Kabel.
next word предостор   does not exist in russian but has elemnts of the russian word for  Attention, danger  which  is: предосорожность
then  ежениа does not exist in Russian  ежик  exists which is one of those animals   with spikes people give milk to what  s its name???Kids all love it
внутри a russian word indeed meaning 'inside',' within' and  its that word that made me think you were making it all up because  one says in English within 10 meteres  but you definitely cannot use that word in the context of distance
and метров  is meters.  so  I loosely thought  you meant  Teddy. although Teddy or bear is  медвед  in Russian.  but looking at it again   they are obviosly warning  whomever  about the electric  cabel.  but it aint Russians  doing it.
yours Avis.

Cup and Ring Stone mystery solved

Set off this morning Skipton by-pass, Bolton Abbey, Blubberhouses, to park on the Askwith moor road,
I did drive all the way around on the bottom Snowden Carr road but any where suitable to park had been blocked off, the parking spot I did manage had several large boulders across the entrance limiting it to just one car, although the weather had brightened up at first I thought my door was stuck it was that windy but tackled up and climbed over the barbed wire fence onto the moor with my excess haversack straps playing whip-cracker way and trying to take my eyes out ! here’s mark 001 on the map
I’d no sooner taken this then I’d to chase my hat passing another carved (?) boulder, here looking back to the van and the first boulder,
hat retrieved and tied on with spare boot lace under chin and a close up of  #2
It was then along the front of Snowden Crags
passing a cup I wet to try and add some contrast
 looking back along the Crags
with lots of them around mark 002 having water bowls
and carved channels
there was a convenient new gas pipe trench scar across the moor so I followed it up to the top road to get to the green lane. to be met by this
the stile walled up and barb-wired and the gate padlocked  and barb-wired. What’s the point ? (No Pun intended) I was just getting annoyed head on, when I spotted this
I wonder if it knows Lord Snot doesn’t want it flying over HIS moor, it put me in a better frame of mind and I’m glad I zoomed on telephoto first because thinking of macro and getting a bit closer it was off, and had no problems where’s I still had my hat tied on ? On to the next rock at mark 003 there’s a couple of cups with rings
but they’re getting very faint as the rock slowly dissolves with 5,000 years of weather
after a wander about I came to this one at mark 004 and looking over it towards Ilkley
 another slowly dissolving
it was then up to the trig point, I checked out the grouse buts to have dinner but it was just too windy, it would have blown my wine out of the glass ! so made do with water and a Snicker and used the trig as a steady for full zoom of the Kilburn White Horse
A bit further down and the van comes into view with Menwith Hill “Echelon” behind and the wind turbines in the White Horse photo to the right
just thought I'd share cheers all Danny

I’ll have my Ashes scattered here

I’ve put this post on in response to the answer to my comment’s in Steve’s blog
where I noted that being on the three peaks slot I prefer the erosion to be hidden under snow and no crocodile of Grockles shuffling around. I hate to think what it’s like on a Bank Holiday ? So parking at the bottom of Kingsdale I followed the Bridleway down and over Kingsdale beck, you can just see the van (white dot)
and setting off to climb Twisleton scar end, which brought Inglebourgh into view
and a photo shoot for Teddy
then across the Clint's to my favourite place at SD 71436 – 76548
here as a 3’ x 2’ framed photo above the TV and most nights more entertaining to view
here's a blown up view looking across to the slope of Inglebourgh at the crocodile of Grockles I spotted one day, there was nobody in sight on my side, Scales Moor
there’s acre's  of limestone pavement with erratic's everywhere
back on the 4th March 2010 the snow tempted me to have a go for the top
 climbing higher
Looking down on Ribblehead viaduct
Please Shut the Gate
looking back at Inglebourgh from near the top
at the top of Whernside highest point in Yorkshire, Teddy opens the bar South African Pinotage
with the sun lighting up Morecambe bay, the dark blobs on the coast line Heysham power station
it was a long way back down and with the sun setting into the bay
thanks to Steve for the start, just thought I'd share cheers all Danny

Great Bride Stones

I had an e-mail notification to my Brimham Rocks post
http://teddytourteas.blogspot.com/2010/12/teddy-tours-brimham-rocks.html
So thank you Avis, here's some more erroded boulders, 16th Febuary, these are on the top road from
Burnley to Hebden Bridge.
Lots of contours above Todmorden
and still plenty of snow, came up to trig point in a snow flurry SD 9323 2673
the Great Bride Stones are just below and to the side
with the low cloud and snow I took the photo's on "snow" setting but they still came out dark
so have had to lighten in photo software
it's like being at a sculpture park
I bet full moon would be "spooky"
found a spot out of the wind with a seat and table for dinner
made a brew then steak and onions in a homemade bread (Canadian wholewheat) sandwich
with this the view to the right
and this left down towards Todmorden
thanks go to Avis for prompting the post - cheers all Danny
